Photosynthetic capacity can be measured via CO2 absorption rate, transpiration, chlorophyll content, and more. For ease and speed of measurement, MIC-100X is the best choice. It's built for collecting large volumes of data with confidence.

Yes — transpiration measurement is now possible using the MIC-100X's temperature/humidity sensor. → Learn more about the Transpiration Measurement option

Please see the repeatability test data available on the Reference Materials page. It shows the results of measuring 20 leaves, three times each. The standard deviation of the A-value variation is 0.66, which compares favorably with competing products.

It varies depending on leaf activity, ambient CO2, device presets, and operator experience, but it's typically about 15 to 30 seconds. Add to this the time needed to select the next sample.

Because an infrared analyzer is housed inside a small chamber to directly measure the drop in CO2 caused by photosynthesis. (Patented in Japan.)

For a leaf with an A-value of around 20, it drops by 10ppm in a little over one second.

No. The device is not water- or splash-resistant. Also, water droplets on the leaf entering the chamber would introduce significant error into the infrared analyzer.

It depends on usage, but continuous measurement is possible for about 3 to 4 hours. You can also use the device while charging if an outlet is available.

This depends on frequency of use; the main consumable parts are the silicone packing and the O-ring gas block. We recommend an annual checkup to maintain measurement accuracy. For cost details, please contact us directly.
